Our Wider Curriculum

Enriching Learning Through Experiences, Opportunities and Personal Development

At Wold Newton Foundation School, we believe that education extends far beyond the classroom. While our curriculum provides pupils with the knowledge and skills they need to succeed academically, our wider curriculum ensures that children also develop confidence, resilience, curiosity and a strong sense of belonging.

We are committed to providing all pupils with a rich range of experiences that broaden horizons, develop character and create lasting memories. Through educational visits, visitors, clubs, performances, leadership opportunities and community involvement, we help children discover new interests, develop talents and gain the cultural capital needed to thrive in modern Britain.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

We know that some of the most powerful learning happens when children can experience it for themselves.

Throughout the year, pupils take part in a wide range of educational visits that bring learning to life and help them make meaningful connections between classroom learning and the real world. Recent visits have included local churches, museums, workshops, outdoor learning opportunities and curriculum-linked experiences such as visits to Pizza Express and St Mary's Church.

We also welcome a variety of visitors into school who share their expertise, experiences and passions with our pupils, helping children to understand the diverse opportunities available to them in the future.

Broadening Horizons

At Wold Newton Foundation School, we want every child to believe that they can achieve their ambitions.

Our annual Careers Day is an excellent example of this commitment. Pupils have the opportunity to meet professionals from a wide range of industries and sectors, ask questions and learn about different career pathways. These experiences help children develop aspirations, understand the importance of education and begin to consider the many opportunities available to them as they grow.

Developing Character and Leadership

Developing the whole child is at the heart of everything we do.

Children are encouraged to take on responsibilities, contribute to school life and develop important personal qualities such as kindness, resilience, teamwork and respect. Through our work on Growth Mindset, pupils learn that mistakes are part of learning and that effort, perseverance and determination help them achieve success.

We provide opportunities for pupils to develop leadership skills through a variety of roles and responsibilities, helping them become confident, responsible and active members of our school community.

Creativity and the Arts

We place great value on creativity and ensure that pupils have regular opportunities to express themselves through music, art, drama and performance.

From whole-school productions and performances to music workshops, art projects and celebrations of learning, children are encouraged to develop their confidence and creativity. These opportunities help pupils build self-esteem, discover talents and experience the joy of performing and creating alongside their peers.

Sport, Health and Wellbeing

Physical wellbeing is an important part of our wider curriculum.

Pupils benefit from a range of sporting opportunities, competitions, festivals and extra-curricular clubs which encourage participation, teamwork and healthy lifestyles. Through PE, sports partnerships and enrichment activities, children learn the importance of determination, collaboration and personal achievement.

Alongside this, we support pupils' emotional wellbeing through positive relationships, mental health initiatives and opportunities to develop confidence, resilience and self-awareness.

Clubs and Enrichment Opportunities

We offer a variety of clubs and enrichment activities throughout the year, providing pupils with opportunities to develop new interests and skills outside of the normal school day.

Our clubs and activities reflect the interests of our pupils and provide opportunities for children to work collaboratively, build friendships and pursue personal interests. We believe that participation in wider opportunities helps children grow into confident, well-rounded individuals.

Working With Our Community

Strong partnerships with parents, families and the wider community play an important role in enriching our pupils' education.

We work closely with the PTA, local organisations, community groups and external agencies to provide additional opportunities and experiences for our children. Events such as community celebrations, fundraising activities, family events and curriculum projects help strengthen the connection between school and the wider world.

Every Child, Every Opportunity

Our aim is simple: to ensure that every child has access to a wide range of experiences that inspire, challenge and support their personal development.

By combining a strong academic curriculum with exceptional enrichment opportunities, we help our pupils develop into confident, caring and successful young people who are ready for the next stage of their education and beyond.

At Wold Newton Foundation School, learning doesn't stop at the classroom door—it is enriched through experiences, relationships, opportunities and memories that last a lifetime.
